AI auto-reply
SMS Bridge can draft — or send — replies to incoming SMS in your own voice, using your own free Gemini API key. You stay in control: replies wait for your approval unless you switch on auto-send.
How it works
- An SMS arrives on your phone and is forwarded to SMS Bridge.
- Within about 15 seconds the AI worker picks it up, as long as you have an active persona.
- It sends your persona, the latest messages with that number, and the new message to Gemini with your key.
- Gemini returns a reply and a confidence score between 0 and 1.
- If auto-send is on, the confidence is at or above your threshold, and it is outside your working hours, the reply is sent straight away. Otherwise it waits in Inbox → Drafts for you to approve, edit or reject — and an
ai.draft.createdwebhook fires.
When it stays quiet
- Opt-out and opt-in keywords (
STOP,START, …) are never answered by the AI. - Contacts who opted out, or who texted
STOP AI, are skipped. - Messages older than 20 minutes when the worker sees them are skipped, so a phone coming back online does not answer a backlog.
- Encrypted messages cannot be read, so they are skipped.
- After three automatic replies to the same number within an hour, further replies wait as drafts — so two auto-responders can never text each other forever.
What makes it sound human
- Examples of your real messages teach it your voice.
- It never says it is an AI and avoids corporate boilerplate.
- It keeps SMS-short and replies in the sender's language (you can turn that off).
- If it is unsure what the sender needs, it asks one short question instead of guessing.
Privacy
Your key is encrypted before it is stored and is only used to call Gemini for your own messages. The message text and your persona are sent to Google's Gemini API under your key and your Google account's terms.
